A significant reduction in population growth rate can be achieved simply by satisfying the existing, currently, unmet need for contraception.This unmet need is greatest in the poorer countries of the world. |
In Australia the major political parties disenfranchise us by not announcing target reductions in population growth rates. Very few politicians have the courage to declare that they are not in favour of growth. The alternative Premier at the next election in the state of Queensland, Campbell Newman, is a leading proponent of the growth is good philosophy. This philosophy is widely espoused as applied to demography and the economy. Growth is not good! It results in a headlong rush to destroy the ecology of this planet via Global warming and Resource Depletion . If Campbell Newman is to become Premier he must first win the seat of Ashgrove. That seat is held by Kate Jones. Kate Jones was the Minister for Environment and Resource Management. She has the courage to publicly advocate for management of growth. She understands the need to plan for good quality of life for future generations. |

The instant she said the word, it was almost as if a light was turned on in my head.
Within seconds I realised how stupid I had been.
Here we were talking about problems which are facing our planet, but people weren’t talking about the most obvious problem – too many people.
I knew that we had something like 6.7 billion people in the world, and this was predicted to go to over 9 billion by 2050.
But I’d never actually linked that with a great many of the problems we have in our world.
